SGS The official School of Graduate Studies (SGS) website. This has resources for all U of T graduate students including registration, student services, policies, and program completion.

Conflict Resolution Centre The Conflict Resolution Centre (CRC) for Graduate Students is a service offered to prevent and address conflicts you are facing. They do not intervene or advocate- they listen and help you navigate your way forward. If you are facing conflicts in your academic or personal life, book an appointment with them since no matter is too small to discuss.

UofT Student Life Career Centre The Career Centre offers career advising appointments, tools and resources, as well as workshops and events. Check out what they have to offer for life after graduate school

CUPE3902 If you are a TA, this website has all the information you need to know about CUPE, unit 1 (the TA union). If you TA more than 50 hours you also qualify for benefits offered by CUPE. Information about the benefits is also on this page.


SickKids Research Training Centre The Research Training Centre (RTC) at the Hospital for Sick Children is an initiative that helps ensure that individuals pursuing research at SickKids receive a well-balanced and high-quality research training. The RTC coordinates research training competitions, runs career development seminars, networking events as well as other research-training related activities. Register with RTC if you are a research trainee at SickKids and check out their website to learn more.

Career Learning Network The Career Learning Network (CLN) is an online platform offered by the Career Centre to connect current students and recent graduates with potential employers for off- and on-campus positions as well as volunteer opportunities. Students are updated with recruitment activities, information sessions, and the various workshops that the Career Centre provides.

Career Navigator The Career Navigator is a website that helps students discover new career opportunities, meet University of Toronto alumni, participate in skill development, and build a professional network in an area of their interest. These areas can range from Humanities & Culture all the way to the Life Sciences.

LSCDS The Life Science Career Development Society (LSCDS) bridges the gap between academia and industry for graduate students in science. They offer networking events, a mentorship program, and career seminars.

Professional Skills

Graduate Professional Skills Program (GPS) The Graduate Professional Skills (GPS) program is an initiative under SGS to help prepare graduate students for their future. This program offers credits in personal effectiveness, teaching and research-related skills. There is no fee to register, but some courses may have a small fee. Check it out and see if any courses interest you. Once completed, you will have a notation on your transcript.

Mitacs Mitacs is a national research organization that offers unique research and training programs for graduate students and post-doctoral fellows in Canada.

Graduate Centre for Academic Communication (GCAC) The Graduate Centre for Academic Communication provides advanced training to Graduate Students in written and oral communication through free workshops and courses, for both native and non-native speakers of English.

Teaching Assistants’ Training Program (TATP) The Teaching Assistants’ Training Program (TATP) is a peer-training program providing teaching support to students currently enrolled in SGS, and members of CUPE Local 3902 Unit 1 (teaching assistants). TATP seeks to prepare graduate students and teaching assistants for the realities and demands of teaching by providing peer-based support, and through programs such as their workshop series and their certificate programs for undergraduate teaching preparation.

UofT Coders This student-driven community organizes weekly events ranging from beginner to advanced tutorials, co-working sessions, and discussions. UofT Coders encourages curious coders from all programming environments, experience levels, and projects to participate. Check out their website for lesson content and videos from previous events.

Mentorship Resource Centre Develop your skills as a mentor here! There are a variety of workshops on role clarity, communication & engagement, personal development & wellbeing, and knowledge of resources. Attend 1 from each category plus participate in 1 Mentor Cafe and receive your Mentorship Leadership Certificate. To be involved, join any CCR recognized mentorship program.

Graduate Management Consulting Association (GMCA) The Graduate Management Consulting Association (GMCA) is a graduate student-governed professional society that strives to support all graduate and post-doctoral trainees interested in pursuing a future career in management consulting. The GMCA offers programs aimed to educate, train, and connect students in all facets of management consulting to empower them to more effectively leverage their graduate training for a smooth transition into any future career.

Graduate Professional Development (GDP) course This is the PSL2000H component focused on developing the academic and professional skills required to succeed during and beyond graduate education in basic biomedical sciences such as physiology. The primary goals of this course are for students to 1) realize skills and interests, 2) explore career options, 3) learn how to set up a professional development plan, 4) practice interacting with professionals in different career paths and to 5) learn how to effectively market oneself during and after graduate school. Upon completion of the course, career advice and guest panel events are open to students throughout the duration of their graduate studies. This course module is mandatory for newly-admitted PhDs;  however, MSc students are strongly encouraged to take advantage of this departmental resource as well.
